Blog vs. Wiki

The web is a powerful resource for people to share information whether it is through wikis or blogs. When it comes to wikis and blogs, there are many similarities and differences between these two platforms. For wikis, one notable difference is that it tends to have multiple authors contributing, so the page is constantly being updated by a group of people or a community. Wiki is a great tool for discussing, collaborating, and communicating. Hence, it is often used in institutions such as universities for learning purposes between groups of people. A wiki is cater to changes, typically for sharing information between a group of people. On the contrast, a blog is more personable and customizable. BLogs typically only have one author but can have different contributors as well.A blog is more similar to a journal as the author is free to make different posting relating to various topics whether it is to share information or to express their opinions and feelings. With the media industry changing, it is no surprise that blogging can lead to lucrative opportunities with the leverage of social media such as Instagram and search engines like Google. Nowadays, blogging is a great tool for collaboration. It can be turned into a full time job because bloggers can attract business sponsorships and customers to buy their products that they endorse. In a blog, users can connect based on common interests, which can result in more engagement depending on the numbers of followers and subscribers they have. Subsequently, I do see that wikis can make a impact to the business industry as well with social media contributing such a prevalent role to media nowadays. With the vast amount of information on the web, along with the benefits of being simple and organized, wikis can be used for marketing purposes as well. Due to the increase in web traffic over the years and the innovation of web design, wikis can endorse businesses as well by marketing specific content to web surfers based on the content of their page.
